Week 13

The first picture is my daughter who was not in a great mood. I was trying to get my husband and all the kids to stand together for a picture. She was lost in thought so I decided to hold the camera low and shot. She did not even know that I got a picture of her. As you can see, the picture was not in focus, but considering the method I used to take the picture I thought it came out pretty good.

The second shot is of my husband and youngest getting ready to cut down the Christmas tree. I went with a vertical shot to change the format framing. I had taken a couple pictures previous and found that if I just snapped without cuing them to smile I got better results.

Week 10

The first picture is my son. When I was trying to decided a good picture to paint on I thought this one was perfect.

The second picture is of my daughter chasing someones dog.

The third picture is a clone picture of my dog. I am not sure if I used the feature properly.

Week 9

Hello! Here are my two pictures this week that I applied filters to. I tried the GIMP program for the first time and found that I really like the features.

The first picture is my favorite. This is a picture of my son with Theodore the bear. I decided to play around with the cartoon filter and the picture came out looking awsome.

The next picture is of our dog Trooper. He decided to stick on my husbands halloween wig. I used the spinning globe filter and also thought the picture came out great.

Week 8

The first picture that you see is my son in his Super Mario costume.

As you can see the picture has very rich bright colors. I decided to tone everything down to a softer color. I played with a lot of the setting in Photoshop such as the hue, white balance, soft focus and saturation. Below is what the modified picture looks like.

The second set of pictures is of my friends adorable little girl Abbey. I will first present the original picture.

As you can see the original picture is a little dark and the girls do not seem to really pop out that great. I decided to highlight Abbey by again changing the white balance and the soft focus. I also played around with the saturation. In the new picture she really pops out and everything in the background has still remained relatively dark.

Week 7 Photoshop

I have fallen in love with Photoshop. I was able to download a free 30 day trial but am really considering purchasing the program. I didn't realize that there were so many different editing options that you can use. The first picture I did was of my daughter. I think I played with every option in the edit mode possible. I re-sized the picture used softness and white balance. I also sharpened the image. Here is the before and after.

The next photo I also played with the white balance and the soft focus. I also sharpened the image and distorted the picture. I thought is came out really neat. Here are the before and after.

Week 6: Landscape

This picture was taken on my son's field trip to Chapin Orchard. What inspired me to take this photo was the beautiful foliage that you can see in the mid line of the picture. It is a classic example of Vermont's landscapes with the tractor and trees as far as the eye can see.

I think this one is my favorite. It was also taken on our field trip. The red barn certainly pops out with color and in the background you can see the old silo with vines growing out its top. Also the kids with their apple top hats on stand out. This photo follows the rule of thirds.

This picture was taken in my backyard. The main focus of the picture is the kids play structure. What I found interesting after taking the picture was the depth . The picture makes my backyard look bigger then it is. There is also a lot of complementary colors in the picture.

This picture would look so good if the fence wasn't in the way. I love how the dark blue of the sky melts with the mountain. The branch hanging down give that small contrast of color. This was my experiment with shooting at twilight. I tried doing another twilight shot but I didn't get it right and it got to dark. I will upload my fifth picture tomorrow. Think at this point I will stick to daylight shots. Ok! So here is a couple editions to my landscape photos

I love this picture! The way the light rays are coming out of the clouds. This was taken at overlook park in South Burlington. That was my first time there and I was amazed at the view of the lake and the mountains. I would say the picture follows the rule of thirds as the skyline, mountains and trees all fall on the along the grid lines.

This was also taken at overlook park. I colors of the trees and grass complement each other.

Rule of Thirds

This picture is of my blueberry bush that has turned color. I love the red leaves. The bush is centered in the picture as you can see.

The second image is of the same bush but using the rule of thirds. As you can see in the picture that bush is positioned to the right of the frame. If you were to add the grid lines you would see the focal point of the image lies within an intersecting line.

composition and aesthetics

I was having a hard time viewing the links on the moodle website so I ventured onto the web to look up both composition and aesthetics. I saw some beautiful shots and great examples. I had no idea that composition involved so many different details. I used the website photoinf.com to really search for more information on the subject. I certainly put a lot of ideas in my mind and a better understanding.

Week 4 Colors

The first photo I took is of a hive of bees. The color representation in this shot reflects that of complementary colors. The are two shades of brown and a yellowish brown color.

The second picture that I took reflects Analogues Colors. There is a variation of the different greens on both the trees and the grass.

Little of this and a little of that

The pictures shown above are items that I have around my house. There are statues, plaques and photos that I have collected throughout the years. As you can see I have a love for Egypt and that skulls are actually movie props from King Kong. I thought it would be fun to include the pets that I have at my house. Trooper is our mini schnauzer, we have two hamsters Teddy and Lila and a few fish.

Butterfly Issues!!

Hi Class,

For this weeks picture assignment I decided to take a picture of a monarch butterfly.  My hopes were to capture it as it hatched which you can see in the picture and then take a couple pictures after its wings had dried.  Unfortunately this guy didn't come out of its chrysalis right and as you can see his/her wings didn't fully develop.  My kids and I do the whole caterpillar life cycle for fun, so I am no stranger to things not going right.  I already have a butterfly that I have been feeding for about two weeks.  We shall see if this one makes it!
